Sorry, Clark, but you are wrong. True, my Grand Uncle would be the brother of one of my Grand Parents, but the brother of one of my Great Grand Parents (the fathers or mothers of my Grand Parents) is my Great Uncle. Entirely plausible that is the reference here in the strip.
great uncle is correctly used to mean brother of a grand parent. no one ever said the English language was logical. when my nieces and nephews start having children of their own, a āgreat uncleā is what i will be (assuming iām still around this dimension when that occurs).
Sorry Clark, great uncle is the correct phrase for the brother (or brother-in-law) of oneās grandparents. After that you get into the once-, twice-, three times-removed stuff.
