Harry Harrison wrote an alternate-universe SF novel, “A Trans-Atlantic Tunnel, Hurrah!” in which GW and company were captured and executed for treason, and his descendant is an engineer working to redeem his family name. Sort of steam-punkish.
It’s a decent book. Framing device is that the British Empire is still holding on in the 1970s, America lost the Revolution and, as steverino says, GW was executed as a traitor to England. Steampunkish, though it’s a weird hybrid of steampunk, atompunk, and not-at-all-identifiable punk….
