Not tax related, but bureaucratically related.In the early 1970s, the aluminum supplier notified my company, Big Aircraft Co. that 6 sheets of aluminum had been sent to us that was mis-labeled. My supervisor made a check sheet for us to track and locate the parts made from this material. We found and destroyed every bit of it, including the scrap.Thirty years later I happened to be in that department and noticed a company printed worksheet of that original hand drawn copy. I asked the inspector what it was for. He replied that he didn’t know, that was just a record they had to keep.I went to the supervisor, (by then I was in a position that I could ask), what about this form? He didn’t know, it was just something that was there when he started in the department. He had file cabinets full of these sheets. He admitted that no one ever requested to see them.
