US still has a significant military presence in Germany, South Korea, Kosovo, Japan and some other places where we fought a war …

Why is the Left so preoccupied with our leaving Iraq?

^^^ What? Do you mean that the War was part of Obama’s plan to destroy America? How did that happen?

Or do you mean that bringing the combat phase to an end was part of Obama’s plan to destroy America? So you think the troops should stay? For how long? At what cost? If the surge worked, why not bring them home?

We seem much better at getting in, than getting out. The Spanish-American war ended a long time ago, and we’re still invested in Gitmo.

The troops are leaving because the Iraqis want them to leave. Being their country and all, they just might have a say.

The large-scale emergence of Iraqi “awakening” militias prepared to take on Al-Qaida played a much bigger role than the “surge” in dramatically cutting the violence, although a lot still goes on.
