Man: Did I ever tell you I once spent a night in jail, back in my college days?
Brutus; No, you didn't. What were the charges?
Man: Oh, there was no charge - it was free! Har, har!
I was once taken to the county jail for a warrant violation (I wasn’t aware of any) when I got there on booking they ran my prints and said they didn’t match. Someone had used my name for crime and nobody caught it or they had the same name…who knows, they said I was free to go, free to walk 30 miles back to my car…they wouldn’t give me a ride, said the PD brought me in, not their job to take me back. It was a long walk most the night.
Then I spent the next two years trying to get them to erase my prints out of their system. They claim they have but I have no way to verify it short of committing a crime to see if they can match me up or not. They do the same thing to rape victims around here, they keep their DNA on file and if they are found later on to be a suspect in a crime that links them to the DNA they prosecute. Even though they aren’t suppose to use victim DNA to caught criminals. IT makes rape victims not want to come forward.
It is sad there are places where people are locked up for being unable to pay their bills, then billed for their time in prison. How can you ever escape that?
