Richard's Poor Almanac by Richard Thompson for September 04, 2018
Transcript:
bad day trips lurid caverns - embarrassing stalagmite formations & tour guides who keep nudging you. avoid especially the "grotto of glands." geeks neck varmint refuge - just what it says; varmints, mostly un-desirable alien species. and all they do is molt, smell & eat each other. big pile state park - formerly amazing rock state park until the accident. the park ranger on duty seems depressed & withdrawn. cretins run national battlefield - site of the civil war's least decisive battle. a magnet for irate reenactors who spit almost too authentically.

There was a Natural Bridges Park in California until it fell down. Now the locals jokingly refer to it as Natural Pillars

Nothing is more authentic than spitting with a mouth full of loose leaf chaw.

Last year in Australia, we visited a city with amazing huge bats that flew around at dusk. A local told us, “They’s vermin!”

Wonder if “Big Pile” is in reference to New Hampshire’s Old Man of the Mountain, which collapsed in May of 2003?

Clearly, not a winning advertisement for the Day Trip Industry….
