The Baader-Meinhof-Group became the first generation (of three) of the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion, red army fraction). Ulrike Meinhof committed suicide in 1976, Andreas Baader and Gudrun Ensslin in 1977 and Horst Mahler is now a neonazi (those were the four most important members of the Baader-Meinhof-group). And the three wanted suspects raided an armored truck in 1999, unsuccessfully attempted two more raids in 2015 and raided another armored truck in July 2016, but German authorities consider this to be a means to finance their lives, not to rebuild the RAF. Some other terrorists are still at large (two are missing since 1972, potentially dead and not wanted by German authorities anymore, one supposedly died in 1982 during the Lebanon war as a member of a women’s brigade of the PLO, and one supposedly is or was in Bagdad, where she married a palestine terrorist. She also isn’t on the wanted lists any more). Most members of the third generation of the RAF aren’t known and therefore not wanted.
In the comic strip “Ozy and Millie,” Ozy was able to make his adoptive father (a centuries-old dragon) do a spit-take just by saying “Teapot Dome,” the joke being that Dad was old enough to remember that scandal and had hoped to forget it. Maybe today’s NAQV gag is along those same lines.
There’s an excellent BM joke on the soundtrack to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I think it was Eric Idle describing the guests at the premiere and saying ‘Mrs. so-and-so, the local representative of the Baader-Meinhof. She, of course, is the only one armed here tonight.’
