More likely the reverse, actually. These days employers tend to check a prospective employee’s credit record and score (though it’s supposedly illegal, pretty much everyone does it anyway) and will often refuse to hire anyone who’s a credit risk on the theory that they’ll be troublesome and unstable employees. (Contrary to what credit card companies and financial “advisors” might tell you, debt is a very destructive thing to have to carry around with you for any length of time.)
Debt delaying parenthood? Um, that’s funny. I can see that conversation now. Sorry honey no sex tonight we just owe too much money. People delay parenthood because they plan it that way, not because the bills roll in.
My not-millionaire parents paid for my college with an uninsured motorist settlement. Though it’s rubbish that I was “lucky” to avoid debt only through my mother almost being killed in an accident.
