When an honest-to-god orator uses oratorical flourishes, most of us are okay with that. It’s the speakers who don’t give a damn, the “as long as people know what I mean” crowd, who are infuriating in their carelessness.
Nah, language is dynamic, not static, and has unique characteristics with the times, English especially. It’s going to evolve regardless what grammar nazis (and T-Rex) say, and I’m quite inclined to just let it. Just because it’s evolving doesn’t mean it’s going to fall into ruin, like what some people would have you think.
Nauseous means nauseating, not nauseated. To “coin a phrase” once meant to steal it, as in quote someone else without giving them credit. Yes, language is dynamic, it’s just sad when it happens through widespread ignorance and lazyness.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,we shall fight on the seas and oceans,we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,we shall fight on the beaches,we shall fight on the landing grounds,we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,we shall fight in the hills;we shall hardly ever surrender.
