The 1950’s GE we had at school finally gave up the ghost last year. Tearing it apart to recycle we found a gas receipt from 1951!

When I worked at Uncle Mark’s Popcorn Factory there was a fridge that had to be defrosted this way once a week.

It is 2010 and the fridge we have is 20 plus years old. It has to be defrosted every couple of months and runs 24/7. Landlord is too cheap to replace. Our electric bill is outrageously hi because all the appliances are ancient. I can sure identify with this one!!!

Of all the stupid things I’ve done, nope, never a chisel/screwdriver,hammer or crowbar. I used time, pans of hot water, and not the brightest idea, blow dryers. Now my oven is a different story.

My deep freezer has to be defrosted by hand. Can’t complain, my parents gave it to us when they got a new one. If I ever get a new one, it will be frost free!

In our lab, we have to defrost our freezers because frost-free freezers change temperature on a regular basis to work, and our reagents and media would be damaged by this.

I killed a refrigerator by defrosting it with a hammer and a screwdriver. I punctured something that should not have been punctured. The new one doesn’t freeze up like the old one, so I’m not sure if the lesson I learned was don’t do that, or buying a new fridge is worth it.

Run a fan on a freezer to defrost. The ice will start to just drop away. Works fast.

Another way is to put pans of boiling water in the freezer and shut the door.

Pluggers frequently fill their freezers completely with water, for some reason.
