Run the test again, but this time give them beer and Cheetos.

I believe you will find that anything that anchors them to reality will ameliorate the harmful effects.

I’m wondering as to the mental state of the person who came up with the test.

Someone needs to call PETA or ASPCA. I am pretty sure this counts as animal cruelty
