When my dog was a puppy and teething, we quickly learned to provide him with a steady supply of old slippers. He loved them, we didn’t miss them, and he went through them only slightly more slowly than bowls of water. As long as he had something acceptable to both him and us to chew on, he left other things, like the Persian rug, alone.

Maybe we were lucky given our dog never did this, and only chewed on her toys…
