Once one I was in elementary school, I saw the word velociraptor used in an example sentence, and I didn’t know what it was. I tried sounding it out out loud so that the teacher might be able to help me. Phonetic pronunciation: velo-kira-ptor. As you can imagine, I laughed my head off when my teacher questioningly said “velociraptor?” That day, I practiced saying it wrong right until I had it down pat.
