I’m a fifth generation Australian. My forbears came over on the convict ships.

Oh, so you’re just a newcomer, then.

Somehow I like the idea of a country where the forebears were convicts. I live in a country where the forebears were religious whackos. And it shows. When I read Farside99’s post I couldn’t help but think of four Wiley bears. Sorry Farside99, I’m not being critical, it just happened.

I’m not from Australia. I was just replying for the human and then for the kangaroo. But I am named Bruce, does that count? :-)

I’m reminded of a joke I heard long ago, something along the lines of “Britain sent ships full of dangerous criminals to Australia, while they sent ships full of Puritans to America….clearly, they liked Australia a lot more.”

As a child expressed to Art Linkletter years ago, the Puritans came to the Americas to avoid religious persecution, and force everyone to believe as they did! They killed a lot of natives in the process, and went on to do the same in Polynesia and elsewhere.
