“God save the Queen” is the national anthem of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland. For our colonial cousins, Great Britain consists of 3 countries, England, Scotland, and Wales (plus various islands). England doesn’t have an official anthem, however, “Jerusalem” is often used as the unofficial anthem.

If I was going to vote for a song for the national anthem of England, the song ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’ comes to mind. But then it gets stuck there, playing over and over and over….

Uh, Bucky, are you thinking of the actual “God Save the Queen”, the one that has the same tune as “My Country ’Tis of Thee”? Not the one by the Sex Pistols?

I thought Queen’s anthem was “Fat Bottomed Girls”?

I thought that “Queenocentric” only applied to Freddy Mercury!

    Or Caitlin Jenner!

I’ve always wondered if the Queen sings “God Save my Gracious Me”.

Bucky should like this anthem. The second verse (not often performed) goes: "O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter her enemies, And make them fall. Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On thee our hopes we fix, God save us all. "

Usually. Land of hope and Glory for England. Very overtly martial:

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set;God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet!

Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned.God make thee mightier yet!On Sov’ran brows, beloved, renowned,Once more thy crown is set.Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained,Have ruled thee well and long;By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained,Thine Empire shall be strong.

Thy fame is ancient as the days,As Ocean large and wide:A pride that dares, and heeds not praise,A stern and silent pride. Not that false joy that dreams contentWith what our sires have won;The blood a hero sire hath spentStill nerves a hero son.
