Believe it or not, 213 meters is the greatest height from which a chicken egg has been dropped without breaking! Tomatoes were thought to be poisonous until the 18th century. Adult hippos cannot swim or even float!
Virginia Commonwealth University had a competition every year to design a container that would keep an egg from breaking when dropped from varying heights. I wonder if that is what is going on.
Hippos do not really swim. Their method of travel is very simple: they walk underwater. Like many people, hippos enjoy resting in cool water and can let themselves float or sink by controlling their breathing and body position. … Unlike people, hippos can hold their breath for minutes at a time.
The acid in tomatos leached the lead that was used in diner ware back when lead was a popular metal to use. Lead also has a sweet taste too that makes it a problem for children.

But the word “hippopotamus” comes from the Greek meaning “river horse”! How can they not swim nor float?!

The adult hippos at the zoo in Memphis float. Maybe it’s hippos in the wild that can’t float.
