Eldo….
Do you mean the speech balloon pointer?
Cos, strangely, it was already altered for today’s strip….
It was one balloon; now it’s two….but the tail was apparently forgotten,
and left pointing the wrong direction.
Dunno whether the direction of the story is changing, but unlike most of the dialogue during this long re-run,
it’s quite different today from what was said in the first run…..

I thought that Boyd had lost his job there.
both versions are funny…
I LOL’d at the Lucy and Ethel word balloon, but I’m an old guy who grew up watching ‘I Love Lucy’.
Perhaps nowadays the reference can be puzzling to the younger set, so John understandably updated it a bit.
I thought Boyd quit?
He kissed butt and got back in, without time accumulated so he is starting over.
Best laugh I’ve had all week!
Nighthawks… It’s the new version that mentions Lucy!
I do think it’s funnier that way…
But then, I’m old too.
Then again, I think most of us on this site are baby boomers or older, and few of the younger ones are under 50.
I’m always glad to see some millennials and gen x-ers join in.
And the strips that attract teenagers, like Big Nate.
We gotta have new generations of comics readers!
John and L.A., please watch the balloon attribution more carefully — specifically, panel 3.
No problem in P3, Boyd can say that without problem.
Boyd and Lila are more Lucy and Ethel than Drew and Lila
