I know that trick! I had a jar full of dried Habaneros right next to a jar of dried red and green bell peppers. I put in 2 hands full as I was making chicken and rice.

Starches, not water: crackers, potatoes, etc. Water makes it worse.
One underway in the Navy we ran out of hot sauce: the food that trip was so bland we used it on everything.
