Janis: How do they decide who plays in a bowl?
Arlo: Well, there are a lot of bowls out there!
Arlo: Basically, all a team has to do is be invited to win six games!
Janis: Ahh, that's sweet!
SIX??!? ONE is enough. ALL the teams are above average!I remember when Iowa was running around screaming “One in a ROW! One in a ROW!” and went to the SlopBowl.
WMU was fairly competitive in the MAC in the late 60s. BTW WMU beat UW in 1988. UW beat WMU 3 times: 1963, 1981, and 2000. My husband (whose picture is my avatar) was a UW grad. And I am a WMU alumna. It would have been a fun football day if he was still here to watch the game with me. Kathie
doublepaw It was about the same for me. I’m pretty sure they won every once in a while…. But, it was the age of wine skins…..Once they emptied, and the Broncos were behind 35 to 10 it was time to start looking for parties…That’s when things started getting fuzzy….
Bowl-flation. There are twice as many bowls as there should be, and the “six game” rule is eased. Some 5-7 teams are playing this year, which means that some of the bowl participants may end up 5-8. Bowls are cheap now.
My HS lost every game for 4 years, and my college blew a 32 point halftime lead.
They ended the program about 10 years ago. Rumblings of bringing it back, but I’d only support that if they started off playing against JUCO teams. Very SMALL JUCO teams.
Not even that. When I was in High School, our first home game each year was the Milk Bowl, with any profits donated to providing milk to needy children. All a team had to do was be our first home opponent to be in a bowl game of sorts.

They lost me when they went from cotton/rose/orange, etc, to corporate names.

I love the term “bowl eligible.” It’s almost like a plea for recognition.

BTW, isn’t it a hoot to live a half mile from both Kalamazoo and Lake Michigan in such a pretty little town??

And people complain about little kids’ sports rewarding participation instead of achievement.

I always preferred the Ty-D-Bowl myself!
