When not in use, a hammock was rolled up and made part of a wall against things dislodged by cannonballs. It was also used as a shroud for burial at sea. Sorta clouds the leisurely lounging image, doesn’t it?
My dad had a hammock left over from the Navy. He hung it between two avocado trees and it was fun to use.
My hammock is strung between a palm tree and a fig tree. Go figure.
