Aunty, why even think about the gym? You have more important issues, such as stuffing your mouth with food when you are not draining one of your wine boxes.

In 1974, My first wife was told she needed to lose weight and exercise. she decided to join a gym and I joined along with her. When we were at the gym, a man threw open the men’s dressing room door and flashed her. While I was in the dressing room, at least three men approached me to offer a “gay relationship.”When we complained to the gym director, we got lectured on how those men were “their best paying customers,” and that we should “simply adjust to it as part of our gym membership.” We did not go back, our membership expired, and we found out, a few years later that the gym had closed down. I would guess that their “their best paying customers” were not paying enough to keep them going.

I avoided the gym for a long time, concerned not only about the price but body embarrassment issues. I finally talked to a friend who described what it was like and tried it. I was glad to see everyone there intent on their exercises and the machines fun to use. There were all shapes and sizes of bodies. It was a bit expensive at the time, but I found I went regularly and saw results. Now, at least in my area, there are a lot of gyms and with price competition, there are a lot of low-priced ones.
