    This reminds me of early EPA smog cars; my 64 Dodge V8 got 20 MPG, but my EPA throttled Pontiac V8 might have got 10MPG downhill with the wind behind it, but hey, we were cutting emissions and saving the environment, right.

    My new truck has an Auto shifting manual trans. If I use the cruise control in Econ mode, it will coast down the hills or when I take my foot off the throttle on the flats. The Auto shifter pops it back in gear after loosing three or four miles per hour. Really annoying.
