The answer to Winslow’s question appears to be “a bunch of barbarians that we can treat badly any time we want.”

Ah, the creators of the Yugo, or as Dan Ackroyd called it, “the cutting edge of Serbo-Croatian technology”.

In any case, I don’t know who recognized it:

“The Croats arrived in the area of present-day Croatia during the early part of the 7th century AD. They organised the state into two duchies by the 9th century. Tomislav became the first king by 925, elevating Croatia to the status of a kingdom.”Wiki

And it finally got independent status from Yugoslavia in 1991.

A-hem….the point here is not the political or industrial history of Croatia, as interesting as it is. The POINT is the quality of thought process demonstrated by Winslow, which at last report was in the negative figures.

Ahhh.. the Balkan states. More wars and suffering started over such a small poor area of land. Three major world religions constantly at odds. And so many old and festering grievances, that this area will never know true peace.

As Winston Churchill said, “The Balkans produce more history than they can consume locally.”
