Stories vary but originally vampires did not make vampires. In some cases, you had to sell your soul to Hades to become a vampire, in others, you had to curse yourself by leaving the church, and similar. In most stories of vampires before Bram Stoker’s, you became a vampire by bringing a special curse upon yourself, a curse that separates your soul from your life force.
