Alex: Are you sure Paulo and Stigma won't mind me coming to a session? Toggle: Heck, no. It's not like you're Yoko Ono. Besides, I want the guys to meet my girlfriend. Whoa... did I just say girlfriend? Alex: Did he just say girlfriend? Toggle: Maybe she didn't notice. Alex: Time to TIVO the Wedding Channel!

Dude, what happened to the aphasia??
Potrzebie over 15 years ago
I was thinking the same. Here’s some info:
In some cases, a person will completely recover from aphasia without treatment. This type of spontaneous recovery usually occurs following a type of stroke in which blood flow to the brain is temporarily interrupted but quickly restored, called a transient ischemic attack. In these circumstances, language abilities may return in a few hours or a few days.
For most cases, however, language recovery is not as quick or as complete. While many people with aphasia experience partial spontaneous recovery, in which some language abilities return a few days to a month after the brain injury, some amount of aphasia typically remains. In these instances, speech-language therapy is often helpful. Recovery usually continues over a two-year period. Many health professionals believe that the most effective treatment begins early in the recovery process. Some of the factors that influence the amount of improvement include the cause of the brain damage, the area of the brain that was damaged, the extent of the brain injury, and the age and health of the individual. Additional factors include motivation, handedness, and educational level.

Orgelspieler: (in case you missed yesterday’s comment)
I listen to NPR and love sunday Baroque. Did you blast him with JSB’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor? Do you put on a mask and cape for that bit?
Do you know any Danny Elfman tunes or J. Williams “Duel of fates ” , K. Orf’s “Karmina Burana: O Fortuna”, K, Jenkins “Palladio”? I would put money in a tip jar if anyone around me performed these in his garage!

The really funny thing is that with Alex, you can’t even tell if her thoughts are sarcastic or not. Part of me thinks that it’s one of those things like, “Well, guess I’d better start shopping for dresses… eyebrow raise” but without that last part to help.

I have no experience with aphasia, but I know a statement can slip by your automatic censors without you realizing it. Maybe it can slip by aphasia the same way. Then again, maybe it’s a rare mistake on Trudeau’s part.

And maybe, in GT’s mind, moving the story forward is more important than following a lingering recovery. I like Potrzebie’s motivation suggestion, myself.

For what it’s worth, GT has already established that Toggle’s aphasia has improved.

Potrzebie, very interesting observation.. Also, the fact that he has hit it off w/ Alex so well is giving him confidence and rebuilding his self- esteem….. the best medicines he could get! Alex is in a win/win situation. She digs him because he is a damaged vet (for starters) and yet if he does recover, she will know that she played a huge part in his recovery.
