Fred’s taxonomy is off. With ears like that, it is not a rabbit, but a hare. Ears floppy or erect but not small and laid back; precocial not altricial; etc. What he chases are indeed rabbits.
english lops have very long ears, dutch lops shorter - one of mine (cuthbert) is a dutch lop - same color though
they seem to be popular in one of our local 4h clubs
