Liz might notice eventually. She is just too busy having fun with her girlfriends. I understand where Mike is coming from – I used to feel that way at that age. And if Liz notices and asks Mike why he is hiding and he answers that he wanted to know he was missed, Liz will simply answer with a child’s logic, “But Mike, you only need to join them so they can see you!” And that is not what Mike is wondering. He wants to know if he is always on their mind and would notice his absence immediately and seek him out. That would boost his self-esteem. The truth is teenagers are self-absorbed and only concerned about themselves. The truth is they will eventually notice his absence – when his bed is empty. Hours later. Or when they want a lame duck for one of their pranks.
The creepy, misshapen, no neck counselor has a point.
On the other hand, I don’t see Lawrence or Brian over there, so maybe there is an older kid campfire Mike doesn’t know about, which he might like better. I don’t know why he thinks the little kids are going to miss him.
On the other hand, Elizabeth is about 2 seconds away from catching herself on fire, so it’s really unlikely Mike will get any attention after that. Of course the fire seems to have that mysterious yellow bowl over it, so maybe it’s some kind of protective shield to keep Elizabeth from burning herself.
I figured out why Mike thinks that Elizabeth’s group by the fire is his group of the older kids. Mike’s age group is to wear the red shirts, while the younger kids are supposed to be in yellow. For some reason, Elizabeth and her age group are in red t-shirts. No wonder Mike is confused.

There should be a law against men wearing shorts that reveal the knees. Where are the fashion police?

Kudos to the counselor for giving the sullen teenager his space to sulk in.

Mike’s “friends” have deserted him now that the fun of using him is over.
