Makes me think of the premise behind the first season of a show called ReGenesis. The body of a victim of the Spanish Flu was dug up in the far north, not properly reburied, it was eaten by migratory birds who brought the flu south and infected people with the Spanish flu. (the extremely virulent 1918/1919 flu virus that killed millions of people)
