As a former foster of Great Danes, I saw this all the time. People don’t realize that the cute 25 lb 8 week old puppy will soon become the 8 month old 100 lb puppy doing puppy things but in a 100lb way. They don’t chew your shoes. They eat the couch.

Unfortunately I saw far too much of this when I worked for a shelter and there were days when we just wanted to punch out the morons dropping off their pets for no good reason. One arsehole brought in a shepherd mix dog claiming it was a stray, the way that poor dear freaked out when the arsehole left told a different story – at least we found him a much better home

That’s the problem: puppies and kittens are cute… dogs and cats not so much. I’ve thought for a while one could make a fortune renting infant pets with an automatic replacement plan

Personally, I prefer adult pets over babies. Puppies and kittens require too much work… especially puppies.

If I ever got another dog, it would definitely not be a puppy.

I got a dog from the local shelter who was 4 1/2 at the time and had the cutest face that I could imagine how she looked when a puppy. I just recently had to put her to sleep 6 years later due to an inoperable tumor. Those were the shortest 6 years. I miss her terribly. I’m getting a puppy next time so I can have it around much longer.
