Pretty much anyone and their dog watch star trek these days, so no surprise.

for once Mrs Godfrey didn’t yell at at that’s pretty rare XD

The Original Series is my favorite, but Next Generation and Deep Space Nine were both really good too.

That moment when you meet a girl and she loves something you love too.

Nate has such an aversion to Mrs. Godfrey that he can’t stand even liking he same movie series as her. Even though this was an auspicious time for him to try to patch up his relationship with Mrs. Godfrey, Nate chooses not to.

Stupid Cardassians.

Obviously, Nate is not picking up on the show’s theme of inclusivity and appreciation of diversity while showing minimal “human privilege” over the rest of the galaxy.

Everyone is fully aware of Nate’s relationship with Mrs. Godfrey.

Curious, I fired up NetFlix and watched the two-parter episode. It’s all about the relationship between a torturer and his victim.

The parallel – and I use that word strongly (not equivalence) is relationship between torturer/tormentor/warden and prisoner gets blurred when both have something in common – in this case, Star Trek.

We all know the feeling. We love the music of a certain band, we adore a movie star, we cheer on a sports team – but the moment that we discover that an adversary, a higher authority or flat-out enemy loves something as much as you do….

…uh-oh. You have a mutual interest. And this always throws a wrench into the relationship, and it always seems to tarnish something we cherish.

Red alert, indeed.

Mrs. Godfrey is not my favourite person. While she may be a very good teacher, she is, at her core, a bully. When she umpired Nate’s baseball game and called a strike on a ball that bounced off home plate – and then sent Nate to the showers for losing his temper and challenging her judgement – sorry, everyone, but I lost all respect for Mrs. Godfrey.

Here she is, suddenly being very friendly with Nate – and Nate quickly begins to humanize his harshest disciplinarian.

I, too, would have my guard up, high and strong – and discovering that a mutual interest by a tormentor saps the joy out of something wonderful that is Star Trek.

Theres a fine line between love and hate, Nate!!!
