I think I’ve gotten it figured out….the mouse, the Thing, and the Headless Horseman are Medusa’s ‘many loves’. The mouse was eaten by her snake hair, the Thing is of course made of rock, but the Headless Horseman doesn’t have eyes to look at her, so he can’t be turned into a statue or anything, therefore he is indeed “Mr. Wonderful” for her.
Medusa was the only mortal one of the three sisters. She was the one that lost her head to Perseus. Nothing much is said about Stheno, & Euryale —were all children of the ancient marine deities Phorcys (or “Phorkys”) and his sister Ceto.

Too late, and too much gin. I didn’t understand any of these. Came close with the granite reference, but not totally with you on this one.

Well, she took him for granite because she made him what he is. Few people know the true backstory of the Thing.
