Clearly not. If it were waxing, the left would be the dark side. When the right is the dark side, the Moon is waning, probably in a stately manner.

to keep various parts of their bodies hairless …

The moon is fuzzy sometimes, but I always thought is was cloud haze. I learn the most from the comics.
