Nancy: We're through if you don't stop dunking.
Sluggo: O.k.--No more dunking.
Caption: NEXT DAY
Sluggo: Wow---Look what's laying in the pond.
Nancy: Dunking again.
Sign reads: CITY DUMP
When we were growing up you had to dunk your hard bread or roll in order to eat it. There were no “conditioners” or preservatives or plastic wrapping to keep it soft. It became enjoyable then even when things weren’t dried out to continue the process.
How did she feel about sopping? Use a piece of bread or biscuit was frequent when I was growing up to ensure getting all juices, broth and gravy up from the meal. When you have meager food rations proper manners become secondary.
