Vampires weren’t particularly hot until the Victorian era, when repressed sexuality found an outlet in horror fiction. Before that, they were really icky (Max Schreck was Brad Pitt in comparison). It was the fusion (transfusion?) of vampires/lamias with succubi/incubi that gave them their modern exsanguiliciousness…
