Well, let’s see. They took an economy that was losing thousands of jobs per year under the Bush baby, and started gaining them. They passed a bill that will do more than anything in the past to prevent some 7,000,000 Americans from going bankrupt every year because of health care costs, probably save thousands of lives, and will reduce the budget in the long run. They began the process of ending the useless war in Iraq that was started purely for political purposes. In the meantime, they’re trying to pass legislation that will make it more difficult for banks to foreclose on peoples’ mortgages, make it easier for small businesses to get loans so that more jobs can be created, and punish businesses who outsource jobs. All this despite an opposition party who deliberately tried to make things worse for this country, hoping that the voters are such idiots that they don’t know what’s going on.
The Democratic Party will not be hurt if their members don’t get out the vote. If the Republicans take control of congress, they’ll once again make things worse, and be voted out. It’s the people that will be hurt if any of these unqualified extremist right-wingers get into office.
Where are all these jobs that have been gained? The last time I checked Unemployment was higher than it was during the Bush administration. And the stats don’t even take into consideration the people that have dropped off the UC roles or the ones making half what they did 2 years ago. Sorry but you fail Edcole, you need to learn to watch something besides MSNBC to get your news.
Geeze, these problems we’re facing just didn’t appear overnight. The economic issues we face are largely due to the policies of the last 20 years. We have had a Republican president for 27 of the last 36 years, and a Republican majority in Congress for 10 of the last 12 years. The national deficit doubled under Bush. Talk about spending! The Iraq war is going to cost us 4 Trillion dollars.
The middle class is struggling big time in this country. This country will never prosper unless the middle class is doing well. Just last year alone federal income taxes were down 18%. That is money the government desperately needs. No middle class, no GNP.
sskelton: “My only agenda is keeping my freakin house and making my tax payments and my family’s medical insurance payments.”
And you don’t care WHO pays for it do you? Not to mention, even before the socialist came to power, we were spending $1TRILLION a year on welfare. So don’t go spouting off about costs of programs you don’t like. Especially when the programs you do like cost 4x as much.
The policies of Clinton got us in this mess. Go research some more on NAFTA, the housing crisis origins, etc.
(Not to mention, the president doesn’t create the budget, congress does.. oh yeah… Clinton had a republican congress, and the deficit exploded when the dems took power in 2008)
wow. I never spouted off against any programs. It’s more the endless spending that has existed in Washington for a very long time. If I was to spout off, it would be over the loss of U.S. jobs to other countries, the cost of a meaningless war and the need to keep and develop industry here in the U.S. These are issues that both parties must address as best they can.
And no matter how hard you try, you cannot refute that the national debt doubled under Bush.
And no matter how hard you try, you cannot refute that the national debt has MORE than doubled under democrat control of congress. (and again, btw, who actually controls the spending)
Grim, no doubt! And during wartime, war budgets are nearly always granted, no matter what the amount. Bush went before congress six times to ask that the annual deficit limit could be lifted, and he received his request all six times. This after lying to Congress about weapons of mass destruction and getting his congressional approval to declare war on Iraq.
Let me just say that I value the exchange of ideas and that I always have something that I can learn from the opposing viewpoint. I have never in my life seen this country so divided, and to me that is sad. I think we all agree that we want things to be better than they are, and we are frustrated because we know it is possible.
Oh, and W’s budgets also failed (by design) to include the Medicare drrug benefit. And TARP. Add all that stuff in like grownups are supposed to, and you’ve got most of the deficit and you’re well on the way to the current national debt.
It’s so typical how the blame-game has taken the spotlight in times of trouble. The problems are so vast and overwhelming that there is no easy fix. Rather than doing what’s best to rationally solve the issues, people would rather point at the other guy, who in turn is pointing behind him, and behind him, and so on. When people stop sticking their hands out begging for the ‘free’ stuff and realize that they need to earn it themselves, that’s when the false promises of the almighty politicians will hold no power over us and common sense will prevail.

People take a funny cartoon and make it serious with an unnecessary comment. Priceless.

Edcole, idiots voted this administration in based on BO’s oration skills. His lack of experience has become apparent and he’s lost the country.

Nice selective math. 27 of 36? Can you say “spin”?
It’s been a democratic president 10 of the last 18 years. But that doesn’t jibe with your agenda, does it?
sskelton creator about 14 years ago
Go back and check the Clinton deficit and then check the Bush deficit. Selective math? There is a lot of it out there right now.
My only agenda is keeping my freakin house and making my tax payments and my family’s medical insurance payments.

Clinton rode the internet bubble of the economy, there was nothing underneath it, then when it popped everyone blamed Bush.
What were your favorite policies enacted by Clinton?
I don’t think Bush was a good president by any stretch, but neither was Clinton.
sskelton creator about 14 years ago
Clinton rode the internet bubble of the economy just as Obama is riding the bubble that was given to him.
Basically, we are at the end of 30 years of false prosperity.
Comicsexpert about 14 years ago
And what’s the best way out? More government? More spending?
These idiots can’t balance a budget, spend $317 for a hammer and we want them to run more of our lives.
