Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Just glue a bunch of sand on the bottom and you’re done, Calvin. If you want to be creative, stick a chicken bone in it and say it’s the Gobi desert, and the bone is a dinosaur bone. You’ll be done before your tv show starts.
<< Rachel7 said: Hobbes, how often does Calvin listen to your voices of reason? >>
Many times I’ve suggested to Calvin that he should do something more constructive than sitting and watching TV, and……. well, let’s see…… There was the time Calvin received a chain letter and I told him to throw it away, and he…….OK, how about the time when Calvin wanted to push the car out of the garage into the driveway, and I suggested that he ask his Mom to move it instead, and then he…… hmmm.
I agree, Calvin, looking up something in a book is a lot of trouble. Skimming the list of chapters and looking in the table of contents takes too much time. Just use your i-Phone or Kindle instead.
I thought the major purposes of formal education were (1) to impart the basics, such as ability to read, write a coherent essay, do basic math, and so on, and (2) introduce the students to enough interesting stuff to set each one on fire with the need to know more about some topic or area…
@GretchensMom, sadly I must agree with you: there is not much hope of repentance in many cases. However, little hope is not nearly the same as no hope–similar to death in The Princess Bride:
Miracle Max: “Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there’s usually only one thing you can do.”
Inigo Montoya: “What’s that?”
Miracle Max: “Go through his clothes and look for loose change.”
I thought I had been to a desert ,but it did not qualify as a desert because it got to much rain in a 3 yr period .
They must have been pulling my leg, because it was so dry .
Some people like messing with the minds of young kids.
I was less than disposed to enjoy school in the junior grades. My imagination always had me somewhere else, much like Calvin.
It was not until I got to University that I learned to enjoy learning and education (they are two different things) for their intrinsic value. Eventually they became much more initeresting than television.
While Ignorance is bliss, it is what you don’t know that can hurt you …
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing these days, Bill Watterson, I just wanted to say thank you so very, very much for all the love, joy, laughter and memories that has been this wonderful comic strip for so many years now (especially thanks to wonderful sites like GoComics that have continued to provide us with these ever-delightful re-runs after you decided to retire)!
I made fabulous dioramas and other school projects for school. They were ONE thing that I thought was fun about school. Consequentially, I was also terribly unpopular and everybody hated me…
Thanks for putting it so eloquently, GretchensMom ! Happy Anniversary to one of the most poignant reminders of humanity in one of the most entertaining method of transference. (My, aren’t I full of “steer” today…but I mean every word.)
May I add my congratulations and thanks Mr. Waterson. Love your creation, especially in reruns because my children have all grown up now and I can see the humour in all the petty annoyances they put me through. via Calvin & Hobbes.
A whole 20 minutes huh, wow, it outta look wonderful! I can’t say much when I was a kid I didn’t have much patience for homework either. Thank goodness for Mom though, she could see when I was struggling and would swoop in with fresh ideas to get me motivated to stick with it until the end.

Good point Hobbes. All those camping trips and not one to the desert.

He could get all he needs from watching Roadrunner cartoons. The early ones, at least, had really nice backgrounds.
Today (18 November 2010) is the 25th Anniversary of the first Calvin & Hobbes strip.

Where did Calvin get his magic watch? In the first 3 panels, he has no watch. Then suddenly, he’s checking his watch in the 4th panel!

Keep very low expectations for Calvin. Hopefully they’ll be exceeded, but if not, you shouldn’t be too disappointed.
7 posts before somebodyshort’s post? Where did they all disappear to? I don’t see them. And still no Marg.
Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠

Must find same, old, trustworthy programs to watch, too, else Calvin might accidentally learn.

Calvin sounds exactly like Cheney explaining away his chickenhawk draft history. Close enough for copyright infringement.
