Like any canis, they just sniff each other to know. Coyotes are what wolves wish they were. Poisoning kills many a wolf, not so much the coyotes who learn fast who have spread instead of shrunk as with wolves who have had to be brought back. Coyotes in Meyerland part of Houston have been sighted more than once. Meyerland isn’t in the hinterlands either. Urban wolves? No, but urban coyotes that is no dystopian vision.
