We recently lost gentledog Gray the Border Collie. A dog who had his world well in paw, was joyous, and who took his responsibilities to his people seriously. At 60 pounds he was built like a tank and feared nothing that we ever saw, not even the skunks who got him twice (he found two kits and deemed it his job to bring them to us for evaluation. They disagreed.) And when my husband would haul him onto his lap, that dog would get the goofiest look on his face that said plain as glass, “IS THIS THE BEST THING EVER???” So, yes, some dogs are lapdogs forever. Oh, sorry…there must be smoke in the room or something; my eyes are…y’know.

Our Danes taught themselves to turn around and sit in our laps. All four feet on the floor. Technically, not on the furniture.

Our dachshund only had room to spare when my feet were straight out in the recliner on the floor.

I have a Rover size ‘lap dog’. At least once a night she has to get in the recliner with me.

Good point Rover! I never thought of it from the viewpoint of the size of the human lap.
