I remember, in the 1960s, that many times ladies thought they could tell who was calling—by what they supposed was the quality of the ring! This, from phones that always rang identically (unlike much earlier years in which phone rings were sometimes different). I think it actually had to do with the time of day and week, but people believe what they want to believe. And back in ’97, all phone chirps were alike! So now in the 2020s we have designer rings.
