I did read it. Just because someone wrote it in the sports pages means it’s sound advice. The more sense it made, the more likely it would be to achieve Flo’s goal (no pun intended for a change) of freaking Andy out. Otherwise, Andy can just as easily guess that Flo really has no idea of what she’s saying, still has no expertise at all, and is just saying it to try and freak him out.
That formation is largely rubbish. It’s far more a defensive formation and does not yield the strong attacking presence that Flo’s garnered info would presume. We see how poorly it works for Rafa Benitez.
Looking at the dominant club of Barcelona, they use an attacking 4-3-3 and their fullbacks regularly get forward. They are just very well rehersed and very fluid. The system works because they can control the ball 60+% of the time regularly and defend from the front line.
The reality is the formation isn’t as important as the players in the system. You run a system that fits your players attributes and playing style and then get those players to run the system properly. A 4-5-1 has a plethora of W’s (Jose Mourinho is a great example, however boring), but so does any system with the right players and a skipper who knows how to run it and manage those players.
It could have been worse. It could have been a political comic… those get the largest amount of debate. At least this is something that will get very little but from serious footballers and associated hooligans.
