Sometimes borrow from my husband for mutual things if Iām short on cash (but he always gets that cash back) ā and sometimes lend to friends in case of emergencies, but larger sums only with a receipt. Works nicely.
And no, Tony ā you pay for your drinks yourself. No money from me.
I do not borrow. However I do ālendā and lend and lend. Seems like those I lend to do not know how to repay, but since it is all family, I just donāt look to get that money back. When it comes to things, though, I will go get them after a decent interval of time.

Do you lend or borrow?

āNeither a borrower nor a lender be, For loan oft loses both itself and friendāā¦ says Polonius
Good adviceā¦ hard to followā¦ mostly the lender part, cos I hate borrowing anyway.
Ā
I guess it depends, thoughā¦.There are a few, a very few, people to whom I would lend whatever I could, knowing Iād get it back right awayā¦.
and in fact theyāre the ones Iād give money to, if I could, in a time of needā¦. and even though they probably wouldnāt ask.
Theyād do it for meā¦ and when it comes to ten or twenty dollars, sometimes we donāt even keep track.
Ā
I also know a few perpetual sinkholes, actually I can think of three, offhandā¦ friends or relatives, always broke, bad with moneyā¦
whom I usually allow to borrow and repay, borrow and repay, the same ten or twenty dollarsā¦
an arbitrary amount I feel like I could live with losing, for friendship sake.
Ā
They know not to try to borrow more when they still owe me someā¦.
and I try to just shrug my shoulders, when they show me some foolish extravagances they bought, instead of paying me back.
Ā
As for borrowingā¦..
I donāt have muchā¦ but if I owe anybody money, for any reason, Iām compulsive about repaying it as soon as possible.
Ā
As for Elliotā¦ I donāt think he or Peter ever thought there was any notion of repayment in his request.
Ā
BTWā¦. when I was a kid in the Midwest, we said āCan ya borrow me fifty cents?ā
So the one word sufficed for both.
It must be regionalā¦. havenāt heard it in years.

Almost forgotā¦..
Happy St. Patrickās Day!
The day when everybodyās Irishā¦
for no good reason at allā¦.
unless you count corned beef and beer.
Ā
Yes Plodsā¦ I know.

As to the QotDā¦. Iāve resigned myself to neither since ālendā always turns out āgiveā.
Although, I prefer ādonateā.

Neither borrower (unless you count my mortgage) or a lender. But sometimes I treat. I got this round.
