The wage discrepancy only exists when you look at the average of ALL the wages paid to men (which are skewed high by the number of dirty dangerous and physically hard work(which pays more because of that) that are still done BY CHOICE largely by Men) and ALL the wages paid to women (who still do not take the higher paying dirty dangerous and physically hard work (which pays less because of that) in any significant numbers, BY CHOICE). Way back in the late ’70’s I worked for a county seat weekly paper and we did stories about women who did do those jobs, I recall doing one on a woman who worked on road construction running a large bulldozer. A job perfectly suited to someone with fine motor skill but not great upper body strength. I don’t see much change in the attitudes of women, in the years since toward taking those jobs. Maybe there is something in the back Lizard brain (which we all share) that makes each gender this way. And maybe we should just let people make their own choices in life.
