This is a wonderful example of a win-win situation. If The End is indeed near, then we have nothing to worry about. It’s either your well-deserved eternal reward or simple nothingness (those who hold to eternal retribution as a possibility should bear in mind that those who would be facing that probably don’t follow that philosophy anyway, so will not fear The End). If, on the other side and The End isn’t near, then things will just continue the way they are, and Liō will go on his merry way cavorting with squids and various monsters with an occasional side-trip to the Land of Making Dad Crazy (and where’s the down-side to that?)
Neither will like it if the other is correct. But at least Lio seems more self-confident and optimistic. The “doom and gloom” guy is reeking of his doom and gloom attributes….

Lio has read too many YA books where the teenagers successfully navigate the apocalypse.

The end of Star Wars? Just guessing that’s what Luke Skywalker there is talking about.

Lio himself helped bring it on once. Before someone hit the offstage reset button.

I believe today’s strip is being over thought. Perhaps the joke is simply a reaction to decades of seeing someone carrying that sign in comics?
