I had a pickup truck and it was hard to steer, it didn’t have power steering. My brother once laughed seeing me straining to turn in a parking lot. I sold him the truck years later. After driving it for a while he said he shouldn’t have laughed, he didn’t realize how hard it could be.

Those old trucks weren’t hard to steer unless you broke the power steering belt or a front wheel king pin siezed up.

In the days when power steering was still an option instead of standard equipment, my father referred to standard systems as “Arm strong steering”
