No one seems to notice that Al “the Blow Hard” Gore sold his shares in the Cap and Trade Exchange Bank in Chicago just before its financial collapse. Made millions he did! It is all about money, Al Gore’s money.
Cap and Trade is not a good idea since it gives companies like Goldman Sacks a reason to speculate even further. Its better just to have a carbon tax, which forces automakers to create more fuel efficient cars and decreases our dependence on fossil fuels.
Cap makes sense, it’s the “trade” part that leaves the problem intact- we’ve been there before to prove it. The real problem is that folks like Lisa don’t want to clean up either the environment, or crooked bankers and “traders”- who should be called croupiers. (and they put magnets on the wheel)
Doesn’t that make Al Gore “smart” and “deserving” of his money? This means he’s “earned” it through ‘hard work’ after all. That is the narrative that we’re told.
The Cap and Trade is a direct case of “Unintended consequences.” Everyone thinks it’s a great way to force us to change to alternative fuel sources. That’s great and dandy, but there’s a backlash that many aren’t considering.
Cap and Trade will impact the poor worst by driving up the cost of utilities. The biggest producers of carbon are energy companies (read: power plants). If you think they are just going to soak up the additional costs of this process, you’re sadly mistaken. Almost all governmental regulations that impact cost are passed along to the consumer. Failure to do so would result in businesses going out of business.
Cap and Trade will also affect corporate america, especially manufacturers, just like the poor. Office buildings have already streamlined their energy usage to slim down their overhead costs. With the economic meltdown, businesses pinched and pulled everywhere to minimize their expense ratios and energy usage was one of them. Most businesses are already eco-friendly (between recycling and HE light bulbs), so this won’t “encourage” them to do anything more. But because electricity will be more expensive, these will impact the expense ratio of businesses, and in turn, those businesses will pass along the cost to their clients (see above). Manufacturers are doubly hard hit because the majority of their equipment sucks electricity like it’s going out of style, because it has to. Welders don’t weld without lots of juice. Same with machining equipment. And again, it will be passed along to the consumer.
And on down the line. Everything from airlines to manufacturers, to private citizens will feel the hurt from Cap and Trade. The idea behind it (that is to encourage growth of green energy, and to reduce the emissions of our country) is great, but the execution in this form is absolutely retarded and will hurt people more than it will help.
If you want to find a way to reduce carbon emissions, start looking at countries like China who don’t have the tight regulations like we already have. Use whatever’s left of Obama’s political clout to try to encourage China and India to reduce their carbon output and that will be a better use of our time than something like Cap and Trade.
Dry cleaners had, and maybe still have something like cap and trade. They are given incentives to use equipment that won’t let the perchloroethylene into the atmosphere or they can pay a pollution tax.
I was looking for some docs on the subject but didn’t find what i was looking for.
^ Yeah, are you going to trash Gore because he has an opinion that differs from you own, or are you going to raise him up as a Hero of Capitalism for being an innovator and entrepreneur? What if he complained about his taxes. Would that elevate him to Republican Glory?
Nothing will get done about CO2 or carbon emissions until a few thousand people in Houston are struck dead by heat and pollution some day. London wouldn’t clean up its soot and smoke until many people died suddenly. Lake Michigan wasn’t cleaned up until all the fish started dying. The Cayuga River in Ohio wasn’t cleaned up until it caught fire. Sadly, people just wont pay attention until there’s a disaster, and then only if it directly affects them.

Cap & Trade, an idea rooted in capitalism. But Obama likes it, therefore Republicans now hate it (they used to like it).
