    Do you camp?

At the moment? No, obviously – the internet access in the woods isn’t that good.

Phones won’t work, either – not even texting.

But the flashlight-app on your smartphones will work. For a short time since the phone will try to get a connection with all its power. Same with your camera-app.

So – take a picture of the bear ripping your tent apart (or a selfie with him if it happens to you) while you still can since you won’t be able to call for help whatsoever.

We’d never camped, when I was young, as a family….

My mother could never understand why anyone did it.

“Why would I want to cook on a fire, and sleep on the ground like a bum, when I have a nice stove and a comfortable bed at home?”

Later in life, she’d say “I’d love to go camping… in a nice hotel, with room service.”

My Dad tended to agree…. but he liked the idea of seeing some wild places.

Finally they bought a motor home…. so they could “camp” without camping.

I used to like to camp, though…. until fairly recently.

Never had a lot of equipment… basic sleeping bag, second hand “bump” … as I called my teeny tent.

My body doesn’t care for it any more, though.

I’ve still got the little tent…. but the ground seems to have moved much farther away, and gotten a lot harder.

I didn’t know geology could change like that.

We do, but our idea of roughing it is no dishwasher.

When I was still married and the kids were little, we used to go camping at least once every summer. It was fun, and a change of scenery. Although I don’t go camping anymore, I think I could still do it. Have no problem getting up from the floor. We had a camp stove on which to cook, and that was not so very different than the stove at home. The scenery was always great and we could go for hikes in the hills surrounding the small lake. Ahh, memories!

“Like a monkey in a tree,” he says. What a comparison.

I loved camping in the mountains. The best part was getting up in the morning and breathing the fresh mountain air while surrounded by trees rustling in the wind.

I used to when I was a kid, but I’m with Knightman, I did enough of it when I was in the military and they weren’t fun times.
