    Recently someone lamented how horrible homeless people are and how cities need to “do something about them” (not sure what?). I explained that based on statistics most Americans are literally 1-2 paychecks away from being homeless, even if temporarily. I’ve heard of well-meaning, clean, hard working people having to live in their cars or in shelters for a few months due to unexpected financial crisis. It’s a sad reality but many people have little to no savings and may have very few alternatives (relatives, friends, etc) who can provide them with temporary lodgings. This is why I try to not judge people who seem to be living out of their cars or homeless. It’s not always drugs, alcohol, and mental illness that cause good people to end up homeless.
