My older grandniece has my sense of humor, and it is pretty rewarding when she gets my jokes. The next-oldest demands to have it explained, and then, “O-o-o-o-oh. Ha hahaha.” Example: “You want more water? Do you think it just falls from the sky?” Pause while the oldest realizes it’s not just a “do you think that money grows on trees” platitude.
