Wrong. I have a first edition of The Curse of Capistrano and various editions of the short stories. ( the magazine serials are a bit more difficult) and that’s not how it works. BTW, on their honeymoon, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., and Mary Pickford spent some time looking for books that would translate well to the movies for their fledgling movie company, United Artists. They chose “The Curse of Capistrano”, and named their movie “The Mark of Zorro.” Fairbanks convinced the author, Mr McCulley, to write more and for four decades, he did. If it were not for Zorro, 18 year old Bob Kane might not have written anything about Batman.
