When we first got our cat she slipped into a spot I hadn’t closed off in the toe kick. I had to disassemble the cabinet to get her out. It only took me about 2 hours all told.
Is the dog in the vent? Or just near a vent? Poor thing.
Sometimes the best thing you can do with a scared animal is to sit still and let them approach you. So much easier with smartphones (you can distract yourself – I used to do it with a book) cause it might take hours. Sometimes less if you are eating lunch. A nice animal friendly sandwich (no hot sauce or onions).

A couple of our cats don’t like small children but they don’t have a problem with the baby
Maybe they don’t recognize her as a human yet, that will change when she starts crawling
